This is going to be major, depending on how big of a fan you are of our work. We are announcing that Through Our Eyes Photography will no longer be offering its services. After much deliberation, we decided that we simply do not have the time to market our services to a level that we aim for.

For our “We Are 100″ contest winners (you know who you are), I will keep to the promise and shoot your sessions. For myself, this has been a great journey where I have met a lot of people and learnt a lot alone in 2010. Moving forward, I am now offering my services solely as a second shooter. Or third, or fourth, you get what I mean

As for Tim, well, I guess he will still be shooting for friends and relatives whenever he can. He will also be mountainbiking down some hills so don’t be surprised if you see him at Bukit Kiara zooming down and screaming Banzai!

We would like to thank all our friends and family members who have supported us through our 2 year journey. And to all the beautiful people who trusted us to capture the memories of the biggest day of your lives, we can’t thank you enough.

It has been great, it has been wild and it has been one heck of a ride.

I have always been interested in doing family portrait sessions and when Su Wong asked me if I could do one for her and her family, I was glad to take up the offer. I met up with her and her first warning to me was “My kids take some time to warm up to strangers.” *GULP*

It must be my cute face but I didn’t have much to fear after all as Rae-lynn and Reuel love cameras and they love to have their photos taken, so “Uncle Nick” was very fast in their good books. So, after that first meeting, the next time we met was the actual shoot itself.

Su has a beautiful home, and she has these beautiful stuff painted on her wall. Amazing stuff really and that is her creative outlet. KC is every bit the nice guy and a great father. When he is running in the park, with no wind, and trying to get the kite to fly for his kids, that was something amazing to watch.

Rae-lynn and Reuel was every bit as I imagined them to be. Playful, cheerful and they were absolutely not camera shy. In fact they wanted to see almost every shot after I took them. And they both get along well together even though they are very different in character. Rae-lynn loves reading, painting and girly stuff like accessories. Reuel on the other hand loves cars, trains and Manchester United (high five!).

I had a lot of fun during the session, and I hope they did too. The warmth and love shown in this family is something I hope to have captured on camera.

When I first heard of Wedding & Portraits Photographers Malaysia (WPPM), I wasn’t sure if I wanted to join the Enthusiast or Pro category. While I have been shooting with Tim since 2008, being certified seems like a next step that I wasn’t too sure if I was ready to take. The biggest question was, what was the ultimate reason I wanted to be certified?

Some may say industry recognition and some may say so can charge more (just saying, no one told me that )! I have never been a fan of forced accreditation because it restricts the freedom of the service industry and wedding/ portrait photography is pretty much a service.

Luckily, WPPM is not a must, it is more of a want. And I found myself wanting it more. Not because I wanted the title, although “WPPM Certified Photographer” sounds rather cool, but because I believed in their code of ethics and because I wanted to know if I was up to the standard.

And so, I submitted my initial shots, which were slightly different from what you saw up there. In front of a crowd (which is not the norm by the way), my shots were reviewed and I was given feedback on what to improve, and how to select my portfolio by established names like Patrick Low, Braendan Yong, Jason Victor and Jack Tan. For that review session alone, I would say, it was worth every single cent I paid for my Pro membership.

Having peers of the same passion and interest review your work is a fantastic experience. This was not my first review experience of course, having had some shots reviewed by Wiki Lee, Jenny Sun, Grace Tan and Jon Low during the RedNinja Camp and I dare say with each review session, I have improved. And I guess that is at the end the point of WPPM (and RedNinja as well!) – to share, to learn, to better oneself.

So, finally, I submitted my 20 shots as shown in the montage above. Sorry if some were cut off as I used an automatic montage creator to do one up. But I hope I gave you a glimpse about my journey into WPPM and I am now proud to say that I am A WPPM Certified Photographer.

ps: You can also read about my experience at the WPPM Conference 2010 here.
